What is a super-premium cat food?
When looking at different types of pet food, a ‘Super-premium’ refers to foods containing high quality ingredients and formulations that are nutritionally complete and balanced.
These foods are scientifically formulated to suit different life stages as well as different breeds of cats, so you’re able to find the one that best suits your pet’s age, breed, and lifestyle.
What life-stages should be considered?
When choosing a food for your cat, it is important to remember that cats have different needs at different stages of their lives. A kitten’s nutritional requirements are very different from a senior cat. Let’s look at each of the stages to consider:
Kitten
At this stage, your kitten is growing rapidly, therefore you should be on the lookout for a diet that promotes physical and mental development. For that growing body, you want high levels of omega-3, vitamins, minerals, and proteins.
Adult
Generally, after your kitten turns one, they’re considered an adult. Just like their body changing, so should their diet. Consider if your cat lives primarily indoors or outdoors. Outside of complete and balanced diets, you may also need to consider specific health needs, including urinary health, weight management, sensitive skin & stomach or even hairball control.
Senior/Mature
Around 7 years of age, your cat is needing more attention on things like aging joints or even mental functionality. This is the time to consider diets that complement their newer lifestyle.
What other things are important?
When you feed your pet a super-premium diet, you’ll generally find that the amount you feed is also less, meaning a few different things. It means that your cost per feed will end up being lower, but also because of the higher quality food being digested, it will also mean less waste (less poop to worry about!). Feeding a super-premium diet also has other benefits including high levels of omega fatty acids (for richer hair and coat quality), lower fat levels (reducing risk of obesity due to lower calorie intake) and high levels of antioxidants (benefiting your pet’s immune system).
